Ibn Battuta was a traveler and scholar of Islamic law from Morocco.

His journeys took him to places in Africa and Asia, including India and Southeast Asia.

He learned in cities such as Cairo and Damascus and worked as a qadi, or judge.

After his return, his experiences were recorded in the travel account known as the Rihla.
